MUMBAI: Multi-faceted singer, song-writer, director and actor Farhan Akhtar has another ace up his sleeve. The socially aware Bollywood star was seen performing live on stage at the ‘One Billion Rising’ concert here at Bandra Amphitheatre in Mumbai, on Valentine’s Day.
‘One Billion Rising’ is a global campaign initiated by activist-playwright Eve Ensler, to raise awareness about gender-based violence across 200 countries. The campaign culminated in over a 1,000 citizens coming together to pledge to respect women.
Farhan was seen in a very rocker-chic avatar: a casual black tee and a pair of denims thrown together thoughtlessly to give him just the right air of rockstar irreverence. His equally talented sister Zoya Akhtar was spotted in a grey cowl-neck top and a pair of khaki pants, and the young scriptwriter/ director was seen cheering her brother Farhan on at the ‘One Billion Rising’ concert.
Farhan took to Twitter, to urge people to join him in this noble initiative. “One Billion will Rise. Join the movement wherever you are. I am. Tomorrow. 5:30 pm onwards at Bandra Amphitheatre. Proud to see the massive number of people out in support of One Billion Rising. Let’s keep building momentum as we go forward.”
Also spotted were Rahul Bose, Mita Vashist and many individuals from women’s rights organisations, musicians, salsa dancers, rappers, classical dancers and artistes involved in the numerous facets of rising up against violence towards women. All in all, it certainly was a Valentine’s Day, well spent for our socially aware Bollywood celebrities.
