Much is to be said for an actor, who has graduated from being a student in his first film, to playing a hero in his second feature. And Bollywood hunk Varun Dhawan doesn’t disappoint.
The handsome and talented Varun Dhawan, son of comedy filmmaker David Dhawan, is as smart as they come. His interesting and eclectic choice of roles make him a Gen Y, media-savvy youngster. An actor worth his salt, Varun has displayed a range of emotions and histrionics, right from his debut.
The good looking younger son of David and Lali Dhawan was born on April 24, 1987, which makes him twenty seven years old today. His elder brother is Rohit Dhawan, who made a film, Desi Boyz.
Dhawan was always what is commonly referred to as a filmy kid. He grew up attending film parties and soirees with his famous father, and was the naughty, cheeky kid at film industry events. Varun has a streak of masti in him, which hasn’t subdued over the years.
Varun attended college at Nottingham Trent University, U.K. However, since his childhood ambition was to become an actor, he finished college and returned to India, to pursue a career in acting.
Interestingly, it was not his super hit filmmaker dad David Dhawan who launched him. Karan Johar, family friend of the Dhawans, decided to take the young Varun under his wings, and groom him for his first film. Along with fellow newcomers Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, Varun made his screen debut in the 2012 sleeper hit Student Of The Year.

Varun was then besieged by offers, but decided to star in his home production, for his second film. Varun’s dad David Dhawan roped him in for the solo hero project, Main Tera Hero, which released recently and was a runaway success. Varun starred opposite two hot Bollywood ladies, Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri, and his comic timing, action and dialogue delivery in true Dhawan style was much appreciated.
Varun Dhawan is currently hard at work, filming for Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, another comedy film from the Dharma Productions banner. This time too, he will be paired opposite Alia Bhatt. Aside from that, he will be seen in the sequel to ABCD: Anybody Can Dance and Sriram Raghavan’s untitled next project.
