MUMBAI: Katrina Kaif is the first film star to visit the Ajmer Dargah, the holy shrine of Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti, after the dargah head issued restrictions on film stars visiting the shrine to promote their films.

Accompanied by director Ali Abbas Zafar, Katrina went to seek the khwaja’s blessing, before the release of Ek Tha Tiger. She reached at 6:30am to avoid the crowd of people that throng the shrine during the day and used her time there to untie a ‘mannat ka dhaga’ that she had tied on her last visit.

Last month, Dargah Diwan Zainul Abedin Ali Khan had objected to the fact that film stars and producers visit the shrine to offer prayers for the success of their films and even leave behind CDs of their films. “Dance and films are taboo in Islam and cinema in general today is promoting obscenity, which is a major reason behind the rapid degradation of moral values in the society hence visits by films starts/director/producers for ‘a kind of promotion of their work’ at the religious place is highly intolerable,” Diwan had said.
