Finally, after five years Supreme Court announced justice in Nirbhaya Delhi gang-rape case. A 23-year-old student, Jyoti was gang-raped and tortured on her way back home in Delhi in December 2012.
The court has announced death penalty to four of the men, who were held guilty of raping and torturing a 23-year-old medical student on a moving bus in Delhi.
The verdict was welcomed with a loud applause in the courtroom where Nirbhaya’s parents were also present. Her mother wept silently as soon as the verdict was announced. The court judged the case as the “brutal and demonic” crime that had been proved beyond doubt, reported NDTV.
Reacting to the court’s judgment, Nirbhaya’s father BN Singh said, “I am khush (happy).”
The four rapists were sentenced to death by a trial court in 2013. However, the 4 guilty-Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh moved the Supreme Court for mercy.
