Hitesh Bhatia’s film, Sharmaji Namkeen, has garnered a lot of affection and wonderful feedback. It is a film about a man forced to retire from his job and is looking for a new purpose in life. While he finds meaning in cooking, he braves his way through passion and societal norms.
Javed Akhtar, too, praised the film on his social media account. According to him, the film was well-written and directed, but it was essentially Rishi Kapoor’s show. “You’ve hit the final ball out of the stadium. Tell me why we won’t all miss you forever (sic) “, he tweeted after watching the movie.
Ranbir reveals at the beginning of the film that this film is incredibly meaningful to him, not just because it was his father’s final film, but also because he truly believed in the plot. He recalls how, when Rishi Kapoor fell ill in the middle of the shoot, he desperately wanted to finish the film, but life had other plans.
It was speculated that the film would not get completed. An attempt was made to utilise prosthetics on Ranbir to complete the task; it was a difficult moment for everyone. That’s when Paresh Rawal stepped in to assist with the film’s completion. “The Show must go on,” they say, but Ranbir saw this throughout his Dad’s life.
It was challenging because a single character was suddenly portrayed in two different personas, which is uncommon in the film industry.
Both prodigies Irfan and Rishi, who we lost in April 2020 were seen setting fatherhood goals in their final performances, both depicted beautifully.
