SINGAPORE: Bollywood stars are not just much in demand in India and far-flung NRI hubs like the US and the UK, but pretty much all over the world. As Indians are spread out in all parts of the globe, so too our very own Bollywood celebrities are revered and admired and their appeal is not only pan-Asian but global!
Case in point was the latest edition of the Longines Singapore Gold Cup, which is a charity horse race held in the gorgeous far-eastern city of Singapore. The domestic Group One race is among the most prestigious horse racing events in the country. Added to that was a $1.35 million prize purse awarded to the winning jockey Mr. Alan Munro, the trainer Mr. Takaoka, and owner Mrs. Kusumoto; and you have increased interest in the event.
But even more than the prize money or the prestige of the Cup, was the added attraction of Bollywood superstar and recently turned yummy-mummy Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Aishwarya of course, is the brand ambassador for the timekeeper Longines, and was also Longines Ambassador of Elegance in June 2011.
Shedding light on the timekeeper’s role in the Longines Singapore Gold Cup, Mr. Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President and Head of International Marketing of Longines said, “As the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the Singapore Turf Club, Longines is proud to present the Longines Singapore Gold Cup for the third year. We are enthusiastic about the good synergy formed from this partnership and look forward to continuity.”
And our very own desi beauty added a further touch of glamour and prestige to the high-end charity races. Clad in a stunningly simple yet elegant deep red lehenga choli. She was seen cheering at the races, and was also present at the awards ceremony, along with top Longines officials, for the winner of the Cup. It was surely a day of high excitement and drama, albeit of the equestrian kind, in super stylish Singapore.
