Sanjay Dutt had said that his family had bought AK-56 riffles with ammunition and claimed that it was for the protection of his family as they had received threats during the Mumbai riots.

The case came to court once again in 2006. During the period of 2006–2007, the actor spent seven months in Arthur Road Jail and Pune prison. On July 31, 2007, the TADA court sentenced Dutt to six years’ rigorous imprisonment for illegal possession of weapons and cleared him of charges relating to the Mumbai blasts.The actor claimed that he feared for his life after the Mumbai riots, which were allegedly staged by Mumbai’s Muslim-dominated mafia. But his plea was rejected and was also not granted bail.In 2007, Sanjay Dutt appealed against the sentence and was granted interim bail on August 20, 2007 by the TADA court. Again in October, 2007 he was sent in jail against which he once again appealed for bail. On November 27, 2007, the Munnabhai MBBS actor was granted bail by the Supreme Court
On March 21, 2013, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the TADA court but shortened the sentence to five years’ imprisonment. Dutt was given a month to surrender before the authorities. After the court refused to suspend Sanjay Dutt‘s conviction, he withdrew to contest the 2009 Lok Sabha elections as a candidate for the Samajwadi Party.Either on parole or furlough between May 2013 and May 2014, Sanjay Dutt has already served 18 months of his five-year jail term, during the trial.
Excluding his parole, Sanjay Dutt has spent more than 50 months in jail since 2013-14. The first time he was granted furlough was in October 2013 and then again in 2014. The last time when the actor came out on 30 days furlough was in August 27, 2015 for daughter’s medical treatment. The actor was granted parole for his daughter’s nose surgery. Sanjay Dutt is currently in Yerwada Central Jail, and his prison term is all set to end on February 25, 2016. Sanjay Dutt comes out of jail before almost eight months before the end of his term. Well, the interesting thing is that Sanjay Dutt will be out of the jail on February 25, with Rs 440. The actor who earned money by making paper bags will be given Rs 440 when he would leave the jail on February 25 at 10 am. Approx 50 paise per day, the ‘Munnabhai MBBS‘ star earned Rs 15 per month, which is less than a peanut. Reportedly, Sanjya Dutt’s wife Manyata, kids and close friends will be moving to Pune to receive the actor.
