The film ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is based on the life of the warrior Peshwa Bajirao. The central character will be played by Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra will be seen as Kashibai (Bajirao’s first wife) whereas Deepika Padukone will portray the role of Mastani (Bajirao’s second wife). Just after the release of the deep rooted song Pinga, controversies have surrounded the film like never before.

Several people including the descendants of the Peshwa family have urged that the song is not well researched upon and is misleading in terms of portrayal of history. The excerpts of the letter stated, “It has been found out that the said cinema in the name of cinematic liberty has altered original history. So also, a song has been picturised on the wives of Shrimant Bajirao Peshwa I, Kashibai and Mastani. This incident is not keeping in line with the history.”

Further Prasadrao also urged in letter, “Moreover, the Pinga dance form is an integral part of Marathi culture and has been transformed into an item song and the costumes and dance direction are on those lines.”
