Speculations about the cast of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ are just going on increasing. The director is very secretive about the cast of his movie and doesn’t want to reveal any detail until the official launch.
However, our sources working close to the movie have leaked the news that off-screen romantic Jodi of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, who also romanced on-screen in SLB’s Bajirao Mastani will be starred in the historical drama. However, the latest news is that the role of Deepika’ on-screen husband will be played not by Ranveer but the very talented Shahid Kapoor.
The film is based on the Rajasthani folklore of Rani Padmavati who will be played by the majestic Deepika Padukone. The queen was lusted by Sultan Allauddin Khilji who learnt about the Rani from a tantric who was banished by the Rajput King Rawal Ratan Singh, Padmavati’s husband. The Sultan, in his process, to abduct the Queen, waged a war against the Rajput kingdom ultimately resulting in the Rani committing Jauhar or the act of suicide. Ranveer Singh will be playing the role of Sultan Khilji while reports suggest that Shahid is roped in to play Ratan Singh.
Earlier, speculations were buzzing about the king’s role being played by actor Vicky Kaushal however he no more is on the board of the project.
There is no formal announcement about Shahid playing the Rana but sources suggest that Shahid has already met SLB to talk about the film and is on the verge of accepting the project.
The star is all set for the release of his upcoming ‘Rangoon’ in February. Shahid had reported earlier that he is refraining from accepting more projects till his wife Mira’s delivery as he wants to spend maximum time with dear wife and awaited new member of the Kapoor family.
However, if this new casting news has the little truth to it, it would be one amazing experience indeed to see such wonderful artists coming under one banner to work on a rich majestic story like Rani Padmavati’s.
Well, hope there’s much truth to this matter!
