Shahid Kapoor's Haider Appeals To Kashmiris

Haider is a Shakespearean tragedy, Vishal Bharadwaj’s imitation of the Bard’s Hamlet…a film which many are calling his best till date.

While all that is going on, there are certain people who are more fascinated by it than the regular patrons of Bharadwaj’s cinema. It seems Kashmiri people have lapped up the film like never before as apparently, this is the first time Kashmir’s socio-political chaos has been justly depicted.

Haider may be a revenge drama with too many twists and turns but it displays a Kashmir, Indian films have rarely broached the sensitive issue of half-widows and missing people.

Given the controversial nature of the location and its place in India’s history and politics, filmmakers have till date tried to play safe without ruffling too many feathers. But Vishal dared to make Haider different.

It is not a secret that Vishal is in love with Kashmir. The way the place has been shown is simply majestic.

Plus a superbly executed plot points highlighted an almost real state of this snow-capped state.

With 41 cuts, if Haider has managed to whet the appetite of Kashmiris, it will only invigorate others.
