MUMBAI: This year’s focus at the International Cannes film festival will be Bollywood. And we’ve just discovered that Sonam Kapoor will be the sole representative from Bollywood on opening night of the prestigious film festival!
Sonam’s spokesperson confirmed the news, saying, “Sonam will be the sole representative from Bollywood on the opening night. She will be there before the Indian contingent arrives on May 17 for various screenings and red-carpet events.”
This is Sonam’s third visit to Cannes. Sonam couldn’t contain her excitement last night, where she was spotted at the launch of the L’Or Sunset Cannes collection: “This is the first time I will be part of the opening ceremony and I am extremely excited. Cannes brings together all the aspects of international cinema at one grand platform and this year, it is celebrating the 100 years of Indian cinema. I have never been more proud to be a part of this creative industry.”
Dressed in a chic Armani Prive gown, the stylish fashionista and brand ambassador of L’Oreal Paris said, “I think our cinema has a lot of emotion. Even now when there is world cinema, we have our own identity. I love the fact that there is so much song and drama. I feel that we bring the emotional content to world cinema.”
Being part of an illustrious film family, the centenary celebrations are all the more special to her. “My family has been there in the film industry for years. My grandfather (Surinder Kapoor) was an assistant director in `Mughal-E-Azam` and then got into production. My dad (Anil Kapoor) has been there for so long. We are proud to be a part of the industry.”
