Nigam’s most recent work comes in the form of a video titled ‘The Roadside Ustad’ which was released on Tuesday. Maybe when you watch the video you may not be able to spot Nigam instantly because of his new avatar. No, we are not talking about a new haircut or a wild wardrobe change either. For the video, the singer essentially donned the look of an aged, poor musician. The video is a sort of social experiment conducted on the streets of Juhu in Mumbai and captured the reactions of passersby which ranged from some who nonchalantly walked away as the old man sang to some others who stopped in their tracks to get a better chance to listen to the old man.

When he was asked about his project, Sonu said in a statement: “I went (on to do this video) without any expectations, totally bereft of any awkwardness for the way I was looking and what I was about to subject myself to. For the first time, I was not me. The make-up was so good and authentic that people standing so close to me, couldn’t recognize.”

The harmonium he is seen using in the video was the one his parents brought for him when he was born. Nigam described the whole experience as humbling. He also expressed his gratitude, appreciation and grace towards the video in multiple statements to the media.

“The whole idea behind this experiment was to inspire people to take a moment out of their busy lives and appreciate the beauty of music,” said Karl Katgara who is the creative director responsible for the video.[/tps_footer]
