Urmila-9[tps_footer]From Masoom to a Bombshell in Rangeela, she has come a long way. Well, we are talking about none other than Urmila Matondkar, who turns forty today, on February 04, 2014. She has always been an elusive star who has always worked at her own time and at her own pace.

Urmila Matondkar faced the camera for the first time as a child artist in 1981, with Kalyug directed by Shyam Benegal. The film was known as a modern day version of an Indian epic Mahabharat and has veterans like Shashi Kapoor, Rekha, Raj Babbar, Supriya Pathak and Reema Lagoo essaying major roles.

Urmila achieved success at the age of nine in Shekhar Kapur‘s Masoom in 1983 and then she made her adult debut as an actress with the film Bade Ghar Ki Beti and made headlines when she signed Chamatkar, along with Shah Rukh Khan.

But the film that got everyone to notice Urmila was Ram Gopal Verma’s 1995 musical hit Rangeela, where she was paired opposite Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff.

She went on to frequently collaborate with film director Ram Gopal Verma in films like Daud (1997), Satya (1998), Kaun (1999), Mast (2000), Jungle (2000), Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), Bhoot (2003) as well as Ek Hasina Thi (2004).

In 2007, Urmila lent her voice for Asha Bhosle‘s album Asha And Friends Volume 01, where she performed with Asha Bhosle the duet song Mehbooba Dilruba.

In fact, throughout the 1990’s and the 2000’s, Asha Bhosle sang the maximum number of songs for Urmila. In that same year, she was seen at Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 2 on Sony Entertainment Television as a judge along with Jeetendra and Shiamak Davar.

Well, over the years, Urmila has impressed us with her versatility with the roles she has done and off late we do not get to see her in movies but then one thing is sure that her fans would love to see her on the big screen, again.

Here’s wishing Urmila Matondkar a great year ahead.[/tps_footer]
