MUMBAI: Viacom 18’s ‘Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns’ directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, starring Jimmy Shergill, Mahie Gill, Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan, has taken an average opening at the Box Office.
The film, a sequel to 2011’s ‘Saheb, Biwi, Aur Gangster’ released on 8 March. On Day 1, Friday, ‘Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns’ opened to moderate collections of Rs 34.2 million (3.42 crore) net.
‘Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns’ saw an approximate occupancy of 25-30% and did fairly better in the circles of Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab and Rajasthan. The day shows saw a poor response, but by evening things seemed to pick up in both single screens as well as multiplexes.
The first installment from this franchise had in 2011, garnered close to Rs 75 million (Rs 7.5 crore) net on its first day! But the good news is, ‘Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns’ has garnered fairly good reviews from critics across the board.
Word of mouth, and the failure of releases around the same time, like ‘I, Me Aur Main’, and ‘The Attacks of 26/11’, may provide the impetus needed to the film.
