MUMBAI: Akshay Kumar starrer Khatta Meetha saw a major drop on Monday at the box office and took in net collections of approximately Rs 30 million (Rs 3 crore). As was previously reported by Businessofcinema.com, the movie’s opening weekend collections stand at Rs 230 million (Rs 23 crore), thus taking the four days’ box office total to Rs 260 million (Rs 26 crore).
On the other hand, the Angelina Jolie starrer Salt, released by Sony Pictures, has grossed Rs 78 million (Rs 7.80 crore) at the Indian box office. Salt was released with 464 prints in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu simultaneously with the US opening. In the US, the movie grossed $36 million and was behind last week’s release Inception.
“The film has done great business thanks to Angelina Jolie’s appeal with both women and men and the spy genre which has always appealed to Indian audiences. In fact this looks like it could be the highest grossing female-led Hollywood film in India. Salt follows the tremendous success of Sony Pictures’ The Karate Kid which is still continuing a long run at the box office in its seventh week,” said Sony Pictures India managing director Kercy Daruwala.
