[tps_footer]Salman Khan‘s latest release ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ could not cross the overseas record set by his previous film ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. The film that released on Diwali performed great in areas like US, UK, Canada and Australia among others but is below in the race ranking 5th. Compared to his previous release ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ with director Kabir Khan, despite the Diwali factor ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ could not obtain the same reach overseas. The film is going strong nonetheless both in India and overseas.
Taking an overall total of areas like US/Canada, UK, Gulf countries and Australia, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ managed to collect $6,700,000 net approx (Rs. 44.34 crores approx) while ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ currently stands at $6,050,000 net approx (Rs. 40 crores approx). Both the films released this year and thus there is not much difference in the dollar rupee rate thus eliminating that factor during comparisons. Although the film is not far behind, when you consider the major Holiday factor the numbers could have been a lot better.
Comparing to films like ‘Dhoom 3′, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Happy New Year’, ‘PK’ and ‘Chennai Express’ that released overseas, PRDP enjoyed an extra day at the box office on Thursday. The film has become Salman Khan’s second best performing film overseas after ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. In India, with the Tuesday collections the total comes to Rs. 143.50 crores net approx (1.43 billion).
The coming few days will see the figure rise above 150 crores leaving another 50 crore mark to be covered during the second weekend. ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ only has two days left till its second weekend starts, and till then the film is expected to add another Rs. 14-15 crores to its collections. Friday performance is most crucial for the film as that determines how fast it can achieve the 200 crore mark which the film is now aiming for.[/tps_footer]
