Box Office: Vidya Balan Starrer Begum Jaan First Day Collection!

Vidya Balan starrer Begum Jaan, which is based on the backdrop of the year 1947, finally released at the Box Office this Friday.

Vidya Balan’s Begum Jaan, which is an adaption of Bengali version, Rajkahini, had managed to create the much-needed buzz before the release. The multi starrer film, directed by Srijit Mukerji, is the story of eleven women who refuse to part ways with their brothel and each other during the partition between India and Pakistan in 1947.

Srijit Mukherji directorial film had witnessed the occupancy of around 15-20% in the morning shows on the first day of the release. However, the film could not mint impressive numbers at the Box Office by the end of the day. Begum Jaan has collected Rs 3.50 crore nett approx on its first day, which is very poor considering Friday being a holiday for Good Friday and Ambedkar Jayanti.

The collection of Begum Jaan is as low as last releases, Phillauri, Ok Jaanu and Naam Shabana. It was expected that the holiday would give a push in the collection. However, it did not turn out to be in the film’s favour.

Begum Jaan has been royally crashed in North. The Punjabi film Manje Bistre took a bumper opening of 80-85% in Punjab and the same has been witnessed in Delhi. Other than Punjabi film, Hollywood release Fast and Furious 8 has taken over Begum Jaan.

Begum Jaan is written and directed by National Film Award-winning director Srijit Mukherji and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Vishesh Bhatt, and Play Entertainment. The film also stars Chunkey Pandey and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead roles.
