MUMBAI: With postmortem reports suggesting that Jiah Khan a.k.a Nafisa Khan hanged herself to death and did not have any external injury marks, Sooraj Pancholi the late-actress’s boyfriend can hope to heave a sigh of relief.
The Mumbai police on charges of abetment to suicide (Sec 306 of IPC) arrested Sooraj Pancholi. Jiah Khan had apparently in her suicide letter had mentioned that she underwent torture and claims to have undergone an abortion. While she did not name Sooraj Pancholi in any of the six letters she wrote, the police arrested Sooraj Pancholi as he was the last person she spoke to before she committed suicide on 3 June.
On 14 June, Sooraj Pancholi’s bail plea was adjourned till 21 June.
The aspiring actor had deleted several messages and other important messages from his cell phone, which the police wanted to probe.
While Jiah Khan’s mother Rabiya Khan continues to accuse Sooraj Pancholi of being solely responsible for her daughter’s death, Sooraj’s mother, actress Zarina Wahab and father, Aditya Pancholi are leaving no stone unturned to prove that their son is innocent.
Sooraj Pancholi was set to star in Salman Khan’s home production, a remake of Subhash Ghai’s ‘Hero.’ There were also reports that he would be making his debut opposite Suneil Shetty’s daughter Atiya Shetty.
As the aspiring actor gears to hear his bail plea, several Bollywood actors including Suneil Shetty, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (whom Sooraj Pancholi assisted during ‘Guzaarish’) and school friend Rinzing Denzongpa, son of villain Danny Denzongpa have come out in full support of Sooraj Pancholi and say that he is innocent.
