BARCELONA: International singing and dancing sensation Shakira gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday. The Colombian singer gave birth in a Barcelona hospital Tuesday, confirmed her family.
The pop-star’s footballer boyfriend Gerard Pique, pulled a prank on Friday when he tweeted, “Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thanks to all for your messages.” Friday was the day of Dia de los Innocentes, Spain’s equivalent to April Fool’s Day. Later, after successfully pulling off a prank, Pique tweeted, “He already has a name! He is called Innocent! Happy Day of the Innocents to all!”
Finally on Tuesday, Shakira delivered a healthy baby boy weighing 6 lbs. 6 ounces at 9.36 p.m. She was admitted to the private Teknon clinic at 6.30 p.m. accompanied by Pique.
The couple and the family said, “We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique … the name Milan means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification”.
Numerous reporters and photographers waited outside the clinic, on Tuesday to get a glimpse of the little bundle of joy. Before the birth of baby Milan, Shakira had tweeted, “I’d like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life.”
The very happy couple met in 2010 while shooting for the video of South Africa World Cup theme song, ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).’ They recently hosted a virtual baby shower in association with UNICEF, inviting fans to contribute towards the basic necessities for newborns in poor countries.
