Dark Knight’s The Joker tops Hollywood Halloween outfits

Mumbai: The Joker, played by the late Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight has taken the top spot for the most popular men’s Halloween costume inspired by a 2008 movie, with Christian Bale’s Batman not far behind. Robert Downey, Jr.’s movie roles in Iron Man and Tropic Thunder helped round out the third and fourth choices, while Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones made up the fifth pick.

The survery was conducted by Fandango of nearly 3,000 filmgoers.

The House Bunny, as played by Anna Faris, took the top spot for the most popular women’s Halloween costume followed by characters played by Kristen Stewart (the upcoming Twilight), Angelina Jolie (Wanted), Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana 3D), and Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical 3: Senior Year).

"Movies have always been great fodder for Halloween costume ideas. Many of pop culture’s most iconic characters come from film. The best part is that each year you get a new supply of costume suggestions, thanks to the latest Hollywood inspirations, and this year has provided a bumper crop," said Fandango vice president marketing Ted Hong.

The top ten Halloween costumes, based on movies released in 2008, for each category are as follows:

MEN:

1. The Joker (as played by Ledger) in The Dark Knight;

2. Batman (Bale) in The Dark Knight;

3. Iron Man/Tony Stark (played by Downey, Jr.) in Iron Man;

4. Kirk Lazarus’ black action hero (Downey, Jr.) in Tropic Thunder;

5. Indiana Jones (Ford) in Indy 4;

6. Hellboy (Ron Perlman) in Hellboy II: The Golden Army;

7. Harvey Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart) in The Dark Knight;

8. Jigsaw (Saw V);

9. Simple Jack (as played by Ben Stiller) in Tropic Thunder;

10. Saul the Dealer (James Franco) in Pineapple Express.

WOMEN:

1. The House Bunny (Faris);

2. Fox (Jolie) in Wanted;

3. Hannah Montana (Cyrus);

4. Gabriella (Hudgens) in High School Musical 3: Senior Year;

5. Bella (Kristen Stewart) in the upcoming Twilight;
