High Point finds love in Antipodes

MUMBAI: Carey Fitzgerald’s High Point Media Group has just boosted its Antipodean portfolio with the fresh addition of two brand new films, both from emerging female directors.

From South Pacific Pictures, the production team that brought us Whale Rider, comes culture clash romance, My Wedding and Other Secrets, a smash hit among audiences and critics alike in its native New Zealand where it was released by Sony.

Directed by Roseanne Liang, and based on her own, personal experiences, My Wedding and Other Secrets stars up and coming Michelle Ang as a first generation Chinese New Zealander, forced to challenge her parents’ traditional views on marriage when she falls in love with a westerner. The film, which co-stars veteran actors, Kenneth Tsang and Pei-pei Cheng, recently received a special charity screening at BAFTA in London for the Christchurch earthquake appeal.

Meanwhile, High Point has also snapped up international sales for romantically tinged Australian drama, Surviving Georgia. Co-directed by Kate Whitbread and Sandra Sciberras (Catepillar Wish), the film stars pop singer, Holly Valance (Taken) and Pia Miranda (The Tender Hook) as sisters reconnecting with their estranged, wayward mother. The film is executive produced by Tony I Ginnane.

"These are both genuinely feel-good films about love from uniquely female perspectives. Anyone on the look out for warm, life-affirming stories should definitely look no further," said Fitzgerald.
