MUMBAI: There’s no stopping Slumdog Millionaire! Danny Boyle’s acclaimed film has now taken home two more major film industry awards over the weekend, winning the top prizes from both the Screen Actors Guild and the Producers Guild of America.
The movie won the Best Picture award at the Producers Guild Awards and Outstanding Performance by a Cast at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.
Following its 10 Oscar nominations and expansion into more theaters in North America, Slumdog Millionaire jumped into the North American Top Five this weekend for the first time in its 11-week run. The film generated the highest per-theater average of any film in wide release and saw its weekend gross soar by 80 per cent.
The movie also opened in India on 23 January and as already reported by Businessofcinema.com, it collected Rs 30 million (Rs 3 crores) on Day 1 at the box office.
Slumdog Millionaire has so far grossed $55.91 million at the US box office and is still going strong.
