ITC Sangeet Sammelan held in Hyderabad

MUMBAI: The ITC Sangeet Research Academy (ITC SRA) is organized the Fifth ITC Sangeet Sammelan in Hyderabad on 2 – 3 November, 2007.  The two-day Sangeet Sammelan, which was held in Ravindra Bharathi Auditorium, showcased the talents of some of the well-known exponents of Indian classical music.


 


Performing at the ITC Sangeet Sammelan were former-ITCSRA scholar Vijaya Jadhav Gatlewar (vocal), Debu Chaudhuri with Prateek Chaudhuri (sitar) on 2 November and ITC SRA guru Ulhas Kashalkar (vocal), Vishwa Mohan Bhatt with Salil V Bhatt (Mohan veena) on 3 November.


 


ITC Sangeet Research Academy is an initiative epitomizing corporate patronage of Indian classical music. It was set up as a Public Charitable Trust by ITC Ltd in 1978 to preserve and propagate Hindusthani classical music.


 


The academy’s present gurus include Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, Smt. Malabika Kanan, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Arun Bhaduri, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan and Vidushi Girija Devi. Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta (sarod) and Pandit Manilal Nag (sitar) are the gurus for the instrumental section of the academy.  The academy is headed by Pandit Vidyadhar Vyas.
