MUMBAI: Zubeen Garg, who shot to fame with the foot-tapping Bollywood chartbuster ‘Ya Ali’, will perform at Assam 2007 – a get-together of the Assamese diaspora at Maryland near Washington, on 29 June 2007.
The organisers say that Assam 2007 is part of an ongoing effort to bring together the scattered Assamese community in North America for a celebration of Assamese heritage and culture. The three-day event will also showcase the creative talents of Assamese artists in North America. Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi will attend the event on 1 July 2007.
Zubeen broke into the professional music scene in 1992 with his first Assamese album – “Anamika”. Since then, he has more than 40 albums to his credit. He has also composed music for over 20 Assamese and a couple of Bengali films.
