Little Shilpa – LFW Summer/Resort 2012
Creator of exotic head gear, Little Shilpa, a graduate from the Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic, SNDT University, has been consistently displaying the most mind-boggling headgear at fashion weeks but this time she moved her inspirations to cartoon characters from the world of Disney and displayed garments that had a quirky touch and inspirations of childish elements. Her collection of 20 ensembles was a delightful play of drapes in cotton net, Lycra silk inspired by pop surrealism. Adding on lots of bows, polka dots, stars, hearts and daises all associated with the Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse; Little Shilpa teamed the striking garments with head gear and neckpieces. Attempting shoes and bags for the first time, the designer gave a compete look to the apparel. With the Mickey and Minnie motifs as the centre of attraction there were neon lit bows for the head, while white bangles were turned into a cover over black leotards. The asymmetric hem jersey black dress was modelled with elaborate turbaned head gear. Fur and feathers as well as Perspex was designed into a Red pulsating heart at the centre of an outfit or as head gear; while the Mickey face cut outs were seen for dresses or as extended shoulder pads. The long fabric Mickey necklaces, the red silk giant ears sewn on the skirt of a gown, the beaded black and white streamers in front of the maxi and the final creation with giant black ears as a shrug worn with vinyl tights and white heart shaped balloons, proved that when it comes to thinking completely out of the box no one can beat Little Shilpa.
