Purvi Doshi – LFW Summer/Resort 2012
There was a lot of excitement and action on the ramp when Purvi Doshi presented her collection quaintly called "Chalval" which means movement at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012. It was a nostalgic offering to honour the pride of India's fabric -- Khadi, which has been the fashion statement from the country for centuries. Based on elementary geometric shapes inspired by the circle, triangle and square to form unique silhouettes, Purvi showed that it is simplicity that can create the most striking impact on the audience. Layers in shades of ecru, beige and natural khadi was turned into swirling cropped blouses, asymmetric flouncy tunics, pleated dresses, one shoulder togas with contrast tones, panelled empire line creations, multi tiered and layered midis and two very interesting saris with splashes of embroidery. It was an artistic tribute through fashion to Khadi, which Purvi presented in a very skilful manner; revealing that our fabric of freedom can match any textile in the fashion world. For lovers of true hand spun khadi fabric, which is a labour of love and has a lot of soul, the "Chalval" collection by Purvi Doshi will be treasured for many seasons.
