A R Rahman’s Jana Gana Mana at Fame

Mumbai: Music maestro A R Rahman has recreated the original composition of Rabindranath Tagore’s Jana Gana Mana. The song is led by and picturised on Lata Mangeshkar, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, D.K. Pattamal, Asha Bhosle, Dr. Balamuralikrishna, Bhupen Hazarika, Jagjit Singh, Dr. S.P. Balasubramaniam, Hariharan, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sadiq Khan Langa.


This film which starts with the soulful voice of Lata Mangeshkar will be showcased to patrons prior to all movie screenings at Fame Multiplexes to add an emotive flavour to the National Anthem. It was launched on 24 June, 2006 at Fame Adlabs, Andheri in the presence of Pandit Jasraj, A R and Kavita Krishnamurthy.


Speaking at the launch, Rahman said, “Hope this video brings unity in the country and wipes off hatred from the hearts of the people.”


Shravan Shroff, MD, Shringar Films said, ” I wanted our national anthem to not just sound good but also look good, hence with the help of Rahman and Bharat Bala Productions we have created a video that will not only appeal to the young and old alike but also instill a fresh sense of pride in them.”


“We experienced unity in diversity even in the studio when so many of us were singing the song in so many different styles. I did not feel like a south Indian at that time, I felt an Indian” said Kavita Krishnamurthy.


So the next time one goes to any of the Fame multiplexes across India they will hear and see an indeed pleasant version of Jana Gana Mana. Every 6 months a new film on the national anthem will be screened on the big screen.
