MUMBAI: Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (APKGK), which has been produced by Tips, has done phenomenal business in its opening weekend. The movie has done a net business of Rs 245 million (Rs 24.5 crore) in its opening weekend in India, which is the fourth highest all time opening weekend collections for a film in India.
The record for the highest opening weekend collections is held by Aamir Khan’s Ghajini at Rs 300 million (Rs 30 crore), followed by Love Aaj Kal at Rs 270 million (Rs 27 crore) and Singh Is Kinng’s (3 day weekend including paid previews) stood at Rs 260 million (Rs 26 crore). On the other hand, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’s three-day weekend net collections were Rs 240 crore (Rs 24 crore). APKGK stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in the lead.
On the other hand, Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail fared poorly at the box office. The movie managed to do a net business of Rs 45 million (Rs 4.50 crore) in its opening weekend. From the response that the movie has got across the country in single screens and multiplexes, it seems unlikely to recover its money at the box office.
Jail stars Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse in the lead.
