DQ Entertainment signs new contracts worth $94.4 million

MUMBAI: DQ Entertainment has in its kitty contracts worth $94.4 million, which will be executed over the next two and a half years.

DQ Entertainment has collaborated with European and US animation companies to produce properties for global audiences. In a tripartite contract with M6 Studio, Paris and Method Animation SA, DQE has started production of Little Nick for a 52×12’ 3D TV series. This French property has sold over 10 million copies of books in 30 countries.

Additionally, DQE has also inked a € 18 million joint venture deal to co-produce the 52×26’ 3D animated 3D TV series Little Prince with LLPTV, Paris, France Televsion Group. The company is also on the verge of signing a multi-Euro contract in France for co-producing a second season of a TV series with UK and French Broadcasters. Production for this will begin next month.

DQ has started two TV features in 2D on Indian mythology in partnership with an international broadcaster and an Indian based CGI animated Bollywood feature film being produced for a US feature distributor. DQ is also going into production of the third season of a Disney, USA TV series. These announcements are awaiting clearences from the international partners.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Nasscom conference on global alliances in animation and gaming DQ Entertainment chairman and CEO Tapaas Chakravarti said that the current economic downtrend will require entertainment companies to increase liquidity and enhance capacities to cater to the huge demand expected after the slowdown already in serious plan world over for 2010 – 2011 releases.
