TSOTSI had been awarded the Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Category beating its strongest contender Deepa Mehta’s Water.
Starring Presley Chweneyagae â€“ a gifted actor in the title role, TSOTSI is an endearing tale of a teenage boy who has repressed the memories of his past and lives his life in the present. Seemingly indifferent to emotions and hence uncaring towards the world and its beautiful forms of life, the story revolves around various incidents which helps him transcend into a different mindset slowly. How the story transcends into an emotional plot; when Tsotsi carjacks and accidentally chances upon a little baby inside the car. From there onwards, various incidents he comes across changes his life – forming the crux of the movie.
