Post IM Global deal, Reliance BIG Pictures pulls the plug on international distribution div

MUMBAI: Reliance BIG Pictures has undergone a restructuring exercise. It may be recalled that in February this year, Reliance Big Pictures had inked an alliance with Los Angeles-based sales agent IM Global, which will now handle the international sales for all its films.

Now, the international distribution team comprising Reliance Big Pictures COO – international film business Jawahar Sharma and Reliance Big Pictures regional head – international business – worldwide Gayathiri Batra has parted ways with the company. While Sharma put in his papers in February, Batra resigned recently. The duo was instrumental in setting up and running the international division until the release of 3 Idiots.

IM Global will now handle the international sales for Reliance’s film slate, which included the recently released all-time Hindi blockbuster 3 Idiots, and also the forthcoming Hrithik Roshan starrer Kites that is scheduled to release on 21 May. Going forward, IM Global will also be handling the international sales for Reliance BIG Pictures’ various silos with Hollywood biggies like Nicolas Cage, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Chris Columbus, Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Brett Ratner amongst others.

Additionally, sources also inform Businessofcinema.com that there is yet another top professional from Reliance Big Pictures who has called it a day at the company and is currently serving notice period.

At the time of filing this report, Reliance BIG Pictures CEO Sanjeev Lamba was unavailable for comment.
