Puri Jagannath to remake his Telugu hit

MUMBAI: After Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap, director Jagannath Puri is set to team up with Amitabh Bachchan again. This time it would be a less original work. Puri apparently wants to remake his 2003 hit Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi and it may star Bachchan in the lead.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Puri says, “Before I decided to make Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap with Amitji, I wanted to remake an English-language film with him. When I suggested the idea to my mentor and former boss Ram Gopal Varma, he challenged me to come up with something more original. In a fit of defiance I wrote Bbuddah and showed it to RGV. He immediately took me to meet Amitji who loved the script. That’s how I ended up making an original Hindi film. But now I think I am ready to do a remake with Amitji. In fact, he can do anything, remakes, remixes…”

Varma, who produces Puri’s next project the bi-lingual The Businessman starring Mahesh Babu in Telugu and Abhishek Bachchan in Hindi, might produce the Hindi remake of Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi.

Jagannath thanked Varma in the opening credits of Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap for his contribution to the film, though Ramu says he has no hand in it.

Says Puri, “The film couldn’t have been made without Ramu. If he hadn’t goaded me into writing an original script I’d have probably gone to Amitji with a rehash of a Hollywood film. But now I want to remake one of my Telugu hits Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi in Hindi. This was Asin’s career’s first film.”

Asin is to star in the remake as well.
