UTV acquires worldwide rights for Welcome

MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures has acquired the worldwide distribution rights of Firoz Nadiadwala’s Welcome. The film stars Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Mallika Sherawat and is directed by Anees Bazmee.

UTV now has the worldwide distribution rights of Welcome, which include theatrical (India and overseas), home video, music and satellite. When contacted by Businessofcinema.com, UTV Motion Pictures COO Siddharth Roy Kapur refused to comment on the same.

Welcome is Bazmee’s first film after the success of No Entry in 2005. No Entry had collected Rs 440 million (Rs 44 crores) (net), making it the biggest hit of the year. Hence when Bazmee next attempted a movie in the comedy genre, it was up for grabs. It is said that the bidding for the movie started at Rs 380 – 390 million (Rs 38 – 39 crores) with players such as Eros International, UTV, Studio 18, Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, Balaji Motion Pictures, Zee Telefilms and BIG Motion Pictures in the forefront. The deal was finally clinched by UTV for approximately Rs 500 million (Rs 50 crores), including marketing cost.

“The film is currently in its post production stage for special effects and background music,” informs Bazmee. Nadiadwala was not available for comment.

The film is shot in UAE and
South Africa. The music of the film is composed by Himesh Reshammiya (two songs) and Anand Raaj Anand (three songs).
