Sonam Kapoor feels proud playing the role of Neerja Bhanot and is quite excited. She said that she feels proud and humble of being part of the biopic and is excited to play the role of someone who has been awarded ‘Ashoka Chakra Award’.
Reportedly, director Ram Madhvani said that Neerja Bhanot is very emotional journey for the entire team. And more over he thanks actress Sonam Kapoor to be part of it.
Sonam Kapoor who is currently shooting for the film received a big surprise from none other than Aamir Khan. The actor visited on the set of Neerja Bhanot recently. Also spotted on the sets was actor Boman Irani. Sonam was very excited and happy to see Aamir Khan and Boman Irani on the sets of the film.
Neerja Bhanot was the senior flight purser on the ill-fated Pan Am Flight 73, which was hijacked by four heavily armed terrorists after it landed at Karachi at 5 am from Mumbai. PA 73 was en route to Frankfurt and onward to New York City.
For her bravery, the Government of India posthumously awarded her the Ashoka Chakra Award. She received India’s highest gallantry award for bravery in the face of the enemy during peace time, and Bhanot became its youngest recipient. In 2004 the Indian Postal Service released a stamp commemorating her. She passed away at the age of 22 in 1986.
