After expressing the wish of acing former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi’s role in a film, Vidya Balan has been approached for the biopic. In a recent interview, Vidya Balan revealed that she would like to play Indira Gandhi on the silver screen and soon after, the actress was approached by film director Manish Gupta for the biopic on former PM.
However, the actress hasn’t yet given her nod even though she liked the script. Filmmaker Manish confirmed the reports by saying, “She has liked the script, but hasn’t given a go-ahead yet. Given that the film is on Indira Gandhi, there are precautions needed to be taken before we start.”
Apparently, Manish approached Vidya three-four months ago about the film. Even though Vidya wasn’t completely okay with the script, she liked the story. Before starting or moving forward with the film, Manish needs to get the permission from the Gandhi family and the director is working on it.The biopic is a sensitive issue, so getting the permission from the family is very necessary.
The film’s script is ready, the director has also found a producer to invest on the project and he already has an actress in mind to play the lead role, if things fall perfectly into place, the biopic will soon move forward to the next level. According to reports, the biopic will be called “Indira”.

Unlike most of the Bollywood films, biopic on Indira Gandhi will not have any peppy songs or item numbers or any typical Bollywood song at all. Apart from the main lead, Indira, there will also be characters for Indira Gandhi’s sons Rajeev Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi in the film and we wonder which actor will play which role! When asked who we will get to see in the said two roles, the director of the film confessed that he hasn’t yet approached anyone else than Vidya Balan. Manish said that the main focus of the film is Indira and only her, so the rest of the characters in the film will be supporting characters and the film will not have any other A-lister. Well, we are certainly looking forward for more updates on the project.
