Box Office: 2 States Opens With A Bang

alia Arjun karan Main imagesAlia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor starrer 2 States has opened with a bang at the Box Office. It has managed to get a terrific opening especially at multiplexes in all metros. 2 States opened very well at multiplexes with collections of around fifty five percent.

Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune did extraordinary business. However the collections were lower in mass belts but still good for this a film that’s targeted towards the youth in particular.

2 States has managed an excellent first day and has managed to collect approximately Rs 120 million (Rs 12 crore) nett on it’s opening day; April 18, 2014. The opening day collection of 2 States has been the third best of 2014 after Jai Ho and Gunday.

What may work for 2 States is that fact that it’s aided by a Good Friday holiday though the benefit has been more from the afternoon shows onwards. The single screen opening was relatively weaker.

The audience response to 2 States has been very positive. Those who’ve seen it are heard raving about both Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor’s performances. Also both Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have won lot of accolades for their performances in Gunday and Highway respectively.

A screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel by the same name, 2 States is the story about a Punjabi boy who falls in love with a Tamil girl, and the ensuing cultural clashes between them and their families. The film is being directed by Abhishek Varman.

Second release of the week was Dekh Tamasha Dekh, which boasts of a topical theme – politics and elections. Even though the film has had a very strong word of mouth, the collections have not been very encouraging.

The third release of the week is Lucky Kabootar, which is finally turning lucky, and hitting the screens now after being pushed ahead a couple of times. The film has hardly any collections and looks like it would be a washout at the Box Office.

Coming Friday, April 25, 2014 shall see the release of three films; Kaanchi, Samrat & Co. and Revolver Rani. Now it would be interesting to see how these films fare at the Box Office.
