MUMBAI: Understandably, the buzz for superhero film ‘Krrish 3’ is at an all-time high. The Hrithik Roshan-starrer, which releases later this week, has seen a tremendous anticipation in terms of the box office. Will the hype be justified…?

As we had reported, (HERE), ‘Krrish 3’ is one of the most anticipated films of this year. Pre-release, ‘Krrish 3’ has garnered a fair few eyeballs, and is expected to break all records set previously.

This year, on the whole, has also seen several other films which had tremendous pre-release anticipation.

Here’s a look at some films which generated enormous hype, and how they actually fared at the ticketing windows…

Chennai Express: This year’s biggest hit, both in terms of popularity and in terms of box office results, Shah Rukh Khan – Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Chennai Express’ managed to create box office history.

Shattering Day 1 collections (Rs 330 million or Rs 33 crore), first weekend collections, monthly collections (FULL REPORT HERE) and all time collections surpassing Rs 2.26 billion (Rs 226 crore) net. (REPORTS: Unchallenged Third Week and Breaks “3 idiots” Record)

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara: This Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan starrer was meant to provide stiff competition to SRK’s ‘Chennai Express’, but we all know what happened post release. ‘OUTIMD’ was completely obliterated by ‘Chennai Express’, and failed to live up to the hype it had generated, pre-release (REPORT HERE).

Day 1 collections were in the range of an average Rs 111.10 million (Rs 11.10 crore) net, and the total lifetime collections fettered down to merely Rs 560 million (Rs 56 crore) net.

Boss: Directed by Anthony D’Souza, this Akshay Kumar film proved to be a dud at the box office. An action remake of Malayalam film ‘Pokkiri Raja’, ‘Boss’ did very lacklustre business all over. Day 1 figures stood at Rs 110 million (Rs 11 crore) net.

The film did not sustain post that, and now even after two weeks run ‘Boss’ has not crossed the Rs 500 million (Rs 50 crore) mark yet! (REPORT HERE)

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: A typical romcom, this big-budget Dharma Productions exceeded box office expectations. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ managed to garner total box office collections of approximately Rs 1.76 billion (Rs 176.2 crore) net, while Day 1 itself was bumper news at Rs 197.5 million (Rs 19.75 crore) net.

Besharam: Another Ranbir starrer, which was extremely hyped before release, but ‘Besharam’ turned out to be a damp squib at the ticketing windows. Managing to generate a business of Rs 190 million (Rs 19 crore) net due to the hype, the film’s fate was soon downhill. The film turned out to be Ranbir Kapoor’s worst showing after all (REPORT HERE), despite the presence of his two fabulous parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.

It remains to be seen whether ‘Krrish 3’ can actually live up to the mammoth hype and buzz it has generated prior to release. Hopefully, it won’t turn out to be another flash in the pan, and fizzle out.

Having said that, ‘Krrish 3’ has a huge advantage in terms of it being a Diwali release, so it might just go on to fulfill the prophecies expected from it.
