Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela, starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh is close to entering the range of Rs 1 billion (100 crore).
The ten day collection of the film is in the range of Rs 891 million (89.1 crore) nett, still short of the 100 crore mark.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela was released on November 15, 2013. It has been into troubles since then.
And even prior to that, the film was in headlines, right from the day it went on floors. First it was for the casting, then there were legal issues about the title of the film, and lastly it faced severe protests from religious communities. The screening was stalled at some parts in India. The protestors had problems with the lead character’s name – Ram – who, according to them was shown doing things which hurt their religious sentiments.
The film was taken off screens in UP, due to a ban. The screenings have resumed now.
With no worthwhile film releasing between Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela (November 15, 2013) and Dhoom 3 (December 20, 2013), barring Bullett Raja (November 29, 2013), which so far seems not a threat for the Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh starrer.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela may soon join the 100 crore club.
