Funskool launches dolls of Bollywood star

MUMBAI: Toy manufacturer and distributor Funskool has launched the dolls of Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Kajol. With this, the global phenomenon of Bollywood films has finally and for the first time found its way into the commerical world of mainstream toys. Designed and developed in the UK by toy developers, each of the dolls has been personally approved by the respective Bollywood star.

“The 12-inch dolls of these four actors will go on sale in all major retail toy stores and shopping malls from 4 September at a price of Rs 999,” informs Funskool India Limited CEO John Baby.

Bollywood Legends founder Shameen Jivraj says, “I have been working on this concept for the last four years and have had all actors actively involved throughout the process of creating the dolls.”

However, Jivraj had to shell out a huge license fee to the actors, which she prefers not to disclose. “We plan to sell about 25,000 dolls but are hopeful that the sales will no sooner cross the one lakh mark,” she says.

The dolls have first been launched in Mumbai and will be launched in the UK on 14 September where Kajol and Hrithik Roshan will make a special appearance at Harrods – the premiere department store in the UK. The dolls will be available in UK for 24.99 pounds. Plans are to launch them later in the US and Canada markets too.
