MUMBAI: After a five year hiatus, R. Mohan – the producer of Chandni Bar is back. His next venture titled Gauri – The Unborn, is currently under production. The start-to-finish shooting schedule for the film is going on in Kerala.
Mohan says, “At present the cinema business is looking better and bigger. Chandni Bar was made on a budget of Rs 12.5 million (Rs 1.25 crore). We managed to recover our investment. Madhur Bhandarkar wanted to take a hard look at gritty life of Mumbai’s bar girl. We liked the concept and went ahead. The film won three National awards. Tabu even won the best actress awards at Zee Cine Awards and IIFA 2002 for the same.”
Speaking about his new venture, he says, “Gauri – The Unborn too is a woman-oriented film and is being made on a budget of around Rs 25 million (Rs 2.5 crore). The film stars Atul Kulkarni, Rituparna Sengupta and Anupam Kher. Aku Akbar will be directing the movie and my son Amit Mohan is producing it, under the banner of Myth Productions.”
Mohan entered the Bollywood scenario in 1993-94 with Gardish. Incidentally, it was also Priyadarshan’s first Hindi film as a director. It starred Jackie Shroff, Dimple Kapadia and Amrish Puri. His other films include Kabhi Na Kabhi (1998) and Raja Ko Rani Se Pyar Ho Gaya (2000). He has also produced a couple of South Indian films.
