Sushmita awaits release of Zindaggi Rocks

MUMBAI: After working in an intense, women oriented film – Chingaari with Kalpana Lazmi, Sushmita Sen is ready with her next women oriented film Zindaggi Rocks with yet another female director Tanuja Chandra.

In Zindaggi Rocks Sen plays a rock singer, but the film moves much beyond the songs and breaks into something grim.

Sen reveals, “There is an intense moment in this film, where along with Kria (Sushmita’s character in Zindaggi Rocks) something happened to me as well, which is dangerous. I will not want to do a film like this again, which is so close to being me. My daughter Renee too saw the film and said she liked my performance but would never want to see this film again. Emotionally it is a very heart felt film and pinches the raw nerve.”

“The movie is about an intense relation between a mother and her son, a man and a woman and life and death. The content of the film is not glamorous. The glamour is in what Kria is and not in what she does,” says she.

Till date Sen is remembered for her performance in Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na followed by Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya? From doing light hearted roles, what is it that keeps drawing Sushmita’s attention towards films with intense subjects?

Says she, “Firstly, in my career span of 10 years, I have been destined to do many flop films. I wouldn’t have survived as an actor without the right support of fans. So I have delivered performances to please them. Secondly, I am here to do good cinema and if it means entertaining you in a red saree, I will do it. But most of the times, I need a film like Zindaggi Rocks to survive as an actor, otherwise I’ll lose interest in the whole profession.”

After the release of Zindaggi Rocks, Sushmita will be taking a sabbatical for a few months during which she also plans to research on Rani Laxmibai, on whom she intends making a film in the future.
