Ujjwal Chatterjee to direct film on Musharraf


MUMBAI: Ujjwal Chatterjee (director of Escape From Taliban) has been approached by a Pakistani producer Zahid Basir to direct a film on the life of Pakistan‘s president General Musharraf. The film is titled Musharraf.


 


“I met Pakistani producer Zahid Basir recently in Delhi and Kumar Sanu, producer of Utthan, suggested my name to him. However, I have not yet signed the film. I believe that such a project needs a lot of research. I am honored and quite eager to do this film,” reveals Chatterjee.


 


“The movie will be titled Musharraf and will be made in Urdu and English made under the banner of Budget Communications. Basir has already spoken to the ADC of General Musharraf. After the research work, we will plan the shooting dates. The film will be shot in India and Pakistan. If everything goes according to our plan, then this movie will be released in both these countries,” he adds.


 


Chatterjee’s latest film Utthan, which is budgeted around Rs 25 million (Rs 2.5 crore) is based on the Jessica Lal murder case and is ready for release. The film ran through rough weather at the censor board and finally, has been certified with ‘U’ certificate without any cuts.


 


Utthan is being produced by singer Kumar Sanu. Neha Dhupia plays the role of Jessica Lal; whereas Priyanshu Chatterjee plays the role of Manu Sharma. Chatterjee is also currently working on a feature film on the Godhra episode for Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Limited.
