MUMBAI: Remakes of films seem to be the order of the day in Bollywood. While until now it was the old Hindi classics like Don, Umrao Jaan and Sholay that are being remade, director Rohit Jugraj (James) is now eyeing a remake of Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai.
Jugraj says, “Dil Chahta Hai is an interesting film wherein the characters of Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna are appealing. I am using these three main characters in my film, however the boys will be replaced by girls. The rest of the story is different from the original one. We will highlight the friendship of women; their petty quarrels, arrogance over boyfriend issues, eating habits, nature, etc. We are casting four big actresses. We are not pegging it as a woman-oriented movie.”
The film will be produced by Rupesh Gohil. “The idea and subject of Rohit allured me. I assure you that when it hits the screen the audience too will find it as interesting as Dil Chahta Hai. Presently, we are in the pre-production stages and casting. The film is still untitled and will mount the sets in February next year. It will be canned in two schedules – one in Mumbai and the second in
Gohil, who is into the textile business has produced a TV serial Gul Sanobar for Doordarshan seven years back, which was directed by Sunil Agnihotri. Currently his serial Main Banoongi Miss India has crossed 125 episodes on DD.
