Asha Parekh to stand for CINTAA president

MUMBAI: Yesteryears actress and television producer Asha Parekh and the ex-president of Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) will once again contest for its election on 12 November.

Six years ago, Parekh had resigned from the CINTAA president’s post due to the erratic behaviour of some executive members. According to industry sources, it is alleged that Dara Singh, the current head, has not done much for the association’s  2000 strong members.

Raza Murad says, “TV actors were made to work non-stop for long hours and sometimes for 18 hours. While some are replaced without notice, some are not paid their dues. We do not have a regulated work card and our members are paid a meager amount of Rs 200 per shift.”

However CINTAA general secretary Dharmesh Tiwari refutes the charges saying, “We have an agreement with various channels that do not pay the producers; until the actor’s payments are cleared. We are also providing pension to 40 veteran actors and medical aid to their family members.”

Parekh says, “I have come back because of various members who prodded to chip in. The present committee has not done anything for the actors. I know they are trying to malign me by my resignation letter.”
