MUMBAI: Producer Vashu Bhagnani has zeroed in on Ken Ghosh to direct his son’s debut film.
Bhagnani was earlier contemplating handing over the directorial reigns to adman turned filmmaker Ajit Pal, who has last directed a film Jaane Kaise Kab Kahan starring Karan Nath. However, Bhagnani has now decided that Ghosh will be the man to direct his son’s first film.
Says Bhagnani, “I had actually picked four directors for my son Jacky’s debut film. Ken Ghosh has been finalised. Tushar Hiranandani and Mayur Puri are scripting the film. It won’t be just a love story, but a complete entertainer. Content is the king and I want the script to be finalised before launching the film. We are on the lookout for a new girl.”
Shaadi No 1 was Bhagnani’s last release during Diwali 2005. Ghosh, on the other hand, has two films to his credit, including Ishq Vishk for Tips, and the 2004 film Fida. Ghosh has also directed Chain Kuli Ki Main Kuli for Saragama Films starring Rahul Bose. The film is scheduled to release soon.
Bhagnani, along with music company Tips and director David Dhawan, made Coolie No 1 in 1995. Then followed the ‘No. 1’ series under the banner Puja Films with Govinda and writer-director team of Rumi Jaffrey and Dhawan.
The producer also gave a needed big break to the Bachchan scion Abhishek in Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya in 2000, followed by Tusshar Kapoor in Mujhe Kucch Kehnna Hai in 2001.
Bhagnani had however shifted gears and focused his attention on his construction business after his other venture of making blank audio cassettes for Tips also went kaput, like a few of his last releases. With his son’s film, the producer seems to be back to his first love.
