Grammy Awards 2015: Indian Artists Who Won And Lost

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards saw quite a few Indian faces this time. India-based Ricky Kej won an award for Best New Age Album for his collaborated album Winds Of Samsara. Out of the two ladies nominated for the Grammys Neela Vaswani managed to bag an award but Anoushka Shankar was left behind.

Artist Neela Vaswani won the award for the Best Children’s Album category for I Am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up For Education And Changed The World (Malala Yousafzai). Daughter of late sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, and an excellent sitarist herself, Anoushka Shankar was nominated for her album Traces of You in the Best World Music Album category. However, she lost it to Angelique Kidjo’s album Eve.

Ricky Kej’s album was collaboration with South African musician Wouter Kellerman. Winds Of Samara symbolizes peace and harmony. As described by the website, “Winds of Samsara speaks to themes of peace and positivity, spinning together forward-moving harmony, progressive composition, and technical prowess with a verve and passion never before attempted in the New Age genre.”

Held in Los Angeles, The Annual Grammy Awards the most prestigious for every musician. Bangalore based Ricky Kej’s dream of winning the prestigious award has come true. Ricky has become the first Indian to win the Grammy Award in the Best New Age Album category.
