MUMBAI: After being at the helm of producing and staging various plays since 1997, Darpan Theatre and Cine Arts is now venturing into film production with The Artist as their first project.
While The Artist is complete, work on the second project Main Hoon Ik Baadal is in the pre-production stage. Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, director Sunil Prem Vyas said, “The Artist, which is a two hour long film, is ready. It is about two characters locked inside one auditorium after their show. We are aiming it at various film festivals; right now the censorship is in progress. The film embarks on a subject that has never been made before.”
In The Artist, two actors will portray 22 different characters. This will be a first since veteran actor Sanjeev Kumar essayed the role of nine different characters. The Artist is a small budget venture made in Rs 50 lakhs informed the producer of the film, Mamta Bhatia.
“We are in the process of speaking to a few big banners, but talks are in the initial stages. All those who have seen the film have loved and appreciated it. This is a film that is not particularly for the masses, it will be loved by the multiplex-going and overseas audiences,” says Bhatia.
Apart from the two films, a third script- Galati Se Mistake Ho Gayi is ready and the logistics to make it into a film are being worked on. The lack of experimental films and good cinema in Bollywood is the reason behind venturing into film production stated Vyas.
The Artist stars Mamta Bhatia, Sunil Prem Vyas, Swarup Biswas, Jolly Khan and Raghav Verma amongst others. While DTCA has made various shorts films and documentaries, The Artist will be their first feature film. The second project Main Hoon Ik Baadal will go on floors following the release of The Artist.
