MUMBAI: Actor – producer Sohail Khan is stepping up on his film production business. At the same time, he has decided to take it easy on the acting front.
Speaking exclusively to Businessofcinema.com, Khan says, “When acting is concerned, I want to slow down because I have not been doing good work and I’m not happy with what I have done so far. Now with the film production business faring well, I have decided to concentrate more on that.”
With Sohail Khan Production, the actor turned to being producer for a series of films. Those released include Lucky – No Time For Love, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, Fight Club: Members Only and now Partner.
Next in line is a film based on the concept of Tom and Jerry with Salman Khan and Govinda. “The film we are planning after this after having watched Salman and Govinda together is based on the concept of Tom and Jerry. It will be directed by David Dhavan. But Tom and Jerry is just a thought we’ve worked on.” he added.
The three brothers Salman, Sohail and Arbaaz have been signed to do a remake of Amar Akbar Anthony, for which work will begin by early next year. Besides this the actor will be seen in films like Hello, God Tussi Great Ho and Mera Bharat Mahan.
When asked if he was toying with the idea of making the sequel to Partner, he says, “When you have a film like Partner you enjoy production much more. If they can create a branding and we can go ahead with that then why not. But it all depends on how the audience responds to it.”
Khan adds, “I enjoy making comedy films; it’s a genre I like to keep making. The criteria of the home production is to make fun films that have a universal audience. When you end up making serious films you get into the violence or aggression mode and that is something I would like to avoid. As a home production I would like to restrict it to a U/A or U certificate so that families can come and enjoy the film.”
Speaking on the dynamics of Partner’s success, he adds, “As a production house we have made the film very economically. It’s a big film with a medium budget, so I am extremely safe where the economics are concerned and I genuinely believe everything revolves around economics.”
