MUMBAI: Ramesh Sippy Entertainment and Orion Pictures have joined hands with Warner Brothers Pictures for their next film. Warner has bought the worldwide distribution rights of Advani’s next directorial venture after Salaam-e-Ishq – titled Made in China, which is co-produced by Ramesh Sippy and Orion Pictures’ Mukesh Talreja.
Made in China stars Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone (who makes her debut this year opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om). The film has music by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. The shooting of the film, which is being made on a budget of $ 12 million, will commence in January next year. The script has been penned by Shridhar Raghavan, who recently won the National Award in the best script category for Aparahan. The story of Made in China revolves around Akshay Kumar – a Mumbai cook who finds himself amidst a lot of Kung Fu hullabaloo in China.
Warner Brothers Entertainment India country manager Blaise Fernandes said, “We are excited and proud to be working with such respected partners as Ramesh Sippy and Orion. We will count on our partners’ expertise and will do everything in our power to make a well-crafted, popular and successful Indian film.”
Sippy added, “At the turn of the century there was a lot of promise about globalisation in Indian cinema and now with this venture we are joining hands with Warner Brothers bringing that dream closer to reality. What we hope to achieve at the minimum is a greater knowledge and understanding of the workings and systems of Hollywood and the Indian film industry. I’m sure we both stand to gain a lot from each other.”
