MUMBAI: After actor Salman Khan surrendered before the Jodhur police earlier today, his lawyers have filed a revision petition on his behalf in the Rajasthan High Court.
The petition challenges the five-year jail term given to him for poaching a chinkara (black buck) during a film’s shooting in 1998. However, Khan will have to spend at least four days in jail, as 27 – 28 August (Monday and Tuesday) are court holidays.
A PTI report quoted the actor’s counsel Hastimal Saraswat as saying, “We filed the revision petition under Sections 397 and 401 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the High Court, challenging the judgements of the district judge and the chief judicial magistrate against Salman Khan.”
The petition contended that the district court that dismissed Khan’s appeal against his prison term, had not properly considered the arguments made on the actor’s behalf. The district court also upheld the chief judicial magistrate’s judgement of April 2006 sentencing the star to prison.
The date on which the petition will be heard has not yet been decided.
